On 29th November, The Duchess of Cambridge visited the Foundling Museum in London to find out more about the Museum's history.

The Foundling Museum explores the history of the Foundling Hospital, the UK's first children's charity and first public art gallery. The hospital was established in 1739 by the philanthropist Thomas Coram to care for babies at risk of abandonment.

From 1741 when the first babies were admitted to 1954 when the last pupil was placed in foster care, the hospital cared for and educated around 25,000 children.

During her visit, The Duchess learned more about how the Museum aims to give young people new skills, an understanding of history, and a space in which their voices are heard.

She also viewed an exhibition about the history of the Museum. In particular, she saw the tokens which were left by mothers with their babies so they could identify them.

Later, Catherine met children from The Thomas Cram nursery, which is next to the Museum, and took part in their art project activities. For instance, she saw some lanterns they made.

The day before, Prince Charles announced the engagement of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The couple had a formal photocall in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace and then an interview conducted by BBC presenter Mishal Husain.

Before entering the museum, Catherine walked up the journalists and released what seems to be her first message:
"William and I are absolutely thrilled. It's such exciting news. It's a really happy time for any couple and we wish them all the best and hope they enjoy this happy moment."

She was a bit nervous and some people thought it was a sign of lack of emotion and empathy. She was probably nervous as it was her first pre-arranged 'doorstep'.
