Prince William and Prince Harry wore their regiment uniforms and participated in a commemorative ceremony. It was the first time Queen Elizabeth did not step into the parade and lay her own wreath but watched the ceremony on the balcony of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office as Prince Charles did it for her.

The most popular and symbolic poem of Remembrance Week is "In Flanders Fields" written by John McCrae in May 1915:
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row and row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarse heard amid the guns below.
We are Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
in Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
